Let me just open by saying that I feel really, REALLY, really accomplished.
This room was the most daunting task.
But it turned out exactly how I envisioned it.
Let's start with the beginning.
Here is the room before we moved in (this photo was taken at the end of January) and right after the carpet was installed.
and then...
we...
moved...
in.
Right.
So.
Ummm.
I pretty much wasn't lying when I told you for a month straight that I was working on the playroom.
But now...
This room was really hard to organize.
There aren't ANY solid walls that I could lean furniture against, hang a shelf on, or install hanging art displays and picture frames.
Decorating in a room of solid windows is not awesome.
And there isn't a closet.
This room is directly on the other side of our living room, which you can see here.
Creating decor was hard, so I focused on the windows without the use of curtains.
(Since this room is an add-on, we close the curtains at the entrance to the playroom to create privacy for our living room. There is no need for privacy in the playroom. Obvs.)
The paint chip bunting was exactly what the windows needed!
Standing at the entrance and looking right are all of my craft supplies and an array of stuffed animals.
Here's another view of that side of the room:
In the middle of the room, I put a small section of Ikea tables and a large storage box filled with toys.
There are so many toys.
Thankfully at this house, there isn't one toy IN the house.
(Since this is an add-on in the back of the house, the rule is "No toys in the house." And no toys go past the curtains in the living room.)
Such a difference in keeping a clean house!
Back on subject- I had to create sections in this room using toy boxes/bins and furniture.
You can see more here:
So, this was basically the entire process in a nutshell:
This wasn't a pretty decorating project, but the before and after is just as satisfying.
I wish that I had one of those playrooms that looked beautiful and modern and lovely, but I will totally settle for a giant room able to accomodate my children's prized posessions and my fabric and craft supplies.
What a happy place this has turned into.
And what a radtastic summer this room is going to experience.
:)
Thank you for touring the craziest room ever!
Happy Thursday.

ReplyDeleteHuge accomplishment! I hope you treated yourself to some ice-cream or cookies or glass of wine when you were done. Organization is a beautiful thing. I love the paint chip banner. Where did you get the butcher paper roll holder?
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope your family listens when you ask for no toys. ;) Maybe I should post photos of my kids' toys so my family will believe that they have enough too.

ReplyDeleteMy kids have so many toys between three sets of grandparents, two sets of great granparents, and one great great grandmother... not to mention parents and aunts/uncles. TOO MANY TOYS:)

I'm never so glad that you shared the before picture! I have had the kids play room look like this on many of occasions. I know exactly what an accomplishment it is to get it all organized. You made it look great! I bet the kids LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteWow!! You did an amazing job!!
ReplyDeleteWow, really nice! You've inspired me to re-do my daughter's playroom. I love how you integrated so much color without painting walls or hanging a lot on the walls. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteyou did a CRAZY aMAZing job on this. Your hard work shows, and it totally paid off! I wish I were a little kid so I could come over and play in there - that is like a kid's DREAMLAND.
ReplyDeleteAnd, for sure you had some major obstacles to tackle with all of those windows, but it turned out FABULOUS. :)
And your bunting is just icing on the cake! LOVELY.
That turned out SO nice!!! I bet walls of windows was SUPER hard to work with... But I love the little pendant banner!! :)
ReplyDeletewow, wow, wow, WOW! I LOVE it! Great job organizing everything. I've been thinking more and more about moving toys out of the main part of the house and keeping them in the actual toy room (which is really more of MOmmy's workshop!) This may just be my inspiration! That paint chip bunting is just too fun. Totally perfect in there. And, um- yeah- I second the whole 'don't buy anymore toys for my kids' and need to remember that one myself! ugh
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome. Your kids are so lucky!
ReplyDeleteKimmie, it looks FANTASTIC!!!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteHoly Toy Box! It turned out great! It looks like a fun place for you and your kids to hang out now.
ReplyDeleteWOW! That's QUITE the before pictures! I think you were a BRAVE lady to tackle that!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks AWESOME!!!
(I love your comment about "if you are related to me, please never buy my kids another toy!" - I would like to say that to all of our family members, too!!!)

I love this. It is darling and so well organized.
ReplyDeletewicked jealous you have a whole room to dedicate to your kids' stuff! I have given up 3/4th of my breakfast nook and most of my living room and it is driving me CRAZY!!! I especially love your bunting! If you needed to display art you could always clothespin it to the pennants for some temporary display-age!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out great! It sure makes me wish we had a toy room.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of your extra room! We lived in Iowa for a couple years where we had a basement for all the kid stuff and it was awesome! Now we're back in CA with no extra rooms at all.
ReplyDeleteI really love what you've done with the space. It's so cheery and bright!
holy cow! that is an undertaking! but it turned out wonderful! love all the ikea! :)
ReplyDeletefound you via tt&j!

ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing room! I am totally drooling here. The windows give so much natural light and the decor is so beautiful! Well done! The banner ties it all together. It reminds me of a happy kindergarten classroom!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the midst of a playroom/guestroom makeover as well so I'm so interested to see what others have done.
You made me lol about relatives not buying another toy. I know the feeling!
I found you from Tatertots & Jello!!
AHHHHHMAAAZING. So cool!
ReplyDeleteAmazing work! That looks like such a fun room for your kids to play in! I wish we had that much space at our house...our toy room is also an added-on porch-type room, but only about 1/4 the size of yours!
ReplyDeleteso amazing! totally i had a space like that in our house. and i love the centers that you created. looks great
ReplyDeleteandiejaye @ http://crayonfreckles.blogspot.com
WOW!! I love it! Especially the bunting--I must try it. Our playroom is also an addition, but unlike yours, has virtually zero windows creating a dark dungeon! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeletep.s. did you keep the sliding glass doors to keep things separated (if that's what you had) or did you remove them? I'm trying to decide what to do with ours...
WOW! I wish we had a room that big to store all my kiddos stuff! I love that you keep all the toys there too...no stepping on legos in the middle of the night:)
ReplyDeletethe playroom is awesome!!! LOVE the colors, LOVE the set up, it's gorgeous and functional! Gotta love that!
ReplyDeleteWow, that was a big project! Good work getting it all together! Looks great : )
